Harvest Monday!!!

Woo!!! We got our first harvest of the year!!! Normally I would have been jumping for joy with pea harvests, but as Granny can attest, this is just NOT the year for peas.

So yesterday we harvested 14 ounces of gorgeous kale leaves. I LOVE kale. I think it might be my favorite vegetable. Seriously, more than corn on the cob, tomatoes, and broccoli. I mean, don't get me wrong, I haven't met a vegetable I didn't like, but kale??? I just freaking love it. And it hasn't been hot enough to make it bitter yet, so that is even better!!!

The garden isn't far along enough to give us a harvest every week, but I will take what I can get! Hop on over to Daphne's Dandelions and check out harvests from every corner of the world!
This week: 14 oz
Yearly total: 14 oz

  1. Kale, hugh? Still doesn't do it for me. Probably has something to do with the fact that I've only had store-bought kale and I had most of it while juicing. Maybe I'll try again, although I suppose it will have to wait until next year as our weather is getting hot already.

    1. Kale juice is super strong and tastes like grass, so no wonder you don't like it!! And yeah, you could probably overwinter some kale where you are and it would do just fine. You know, the colder kale gets, the sweeter it gets!

  2. I make a raw kale salad that I love so much that I eat it almost every week - and for every meal. It's addictive... Your kale looks beautiful. Mine is just coming up!

    1. you know, I have never had a kale salad. For as much as I love it, that is something I will have to put on my list to try.

  3. I'm with Carolyn, only I grew my own and was not impressed. I even tried kale chips. Everybody loves kale chips. Everybody but Granny, that is...they were horrid! They just tasted like burnt cabbage.

Hey, Tiny, I have peas! Sure, they were supposed to be sugar snaps, but they are plain old shelling peas. Lots of them, though.

    1. I am going to be honest... I don't like kale chips. I made them, they were gross. I bought them, they were gross. I think kale just was NOT meant to be dried...

Im happy you got some peas, that actually grew! I gave up and pulled mine out... Even though you ended up with shelling peas, I'm jealous!!!

  4. I love every little bit I can get from the garden. It is just a bit more I can save at the grocery store, and I grew it myself! It is quite a satisfying feeling!
I like to add young kale to my salads. Good on a burger too!

    1. put it in pasta, soups, saute it with garlic and onions, put it in smoothies, juice it, put it in lasagna, on pizza, on toast with olive oil... anything you can think of really. Except kale chips... NOT a fan!
